Honoring Tough Alaska Chick... Angelica Haakenson

Posted by on 8th Nov 2015

A few months ago, I was driving down the road and was thinking of all the people I have known, that have gone through a tough situation in life and did not give up. They press on day after day, pushing through mentally or physically, doing the best they can in their situation. Whether it be battling a disease, surviving an accident,  or overcoming abuse.  Day to day trials and tough situations can sometimes make it hard to just smile.
That's when I came up with the idea that maybe I can help put a smile on someones face, even if just for a moment! I put a post on my business page, letting people know they can email me if they know someone who is going through a tough time or situation and nominate them for a free hoodie. (In hopes that we can help put a smile on their face and give them a little bit of encouragement!)
So here is a nomination we received from Cindy Haakenson, who nominated her niece, Angelica Haakenson...Below is her letter to us:

"I would like to nominate my 11 year old niece Angelica Haakenson. She was in a horrific accident on Christmas evening of 2014. She was pinned between two cars and as a result lost both her legs above the knee, suffered numerous broken vertebrae and many lacerations.

There have been quite a few reports in the news and our local papers regarding her accident, giving updates, and showing the amazing support she and her family have received. She spent a couple months at he Children's Hospital in Anchorage going through life saving surgeries and many procedures making her stable enough to leave the state and go to a hospital that would be more enabled to help her move forward with prosthetics and physical therapy. She was accepted into Ronald McDonald house while she did outpatient therapy through Seattle Children's Hospital. I am happy to say that she has just arrived home and is proud to show off how much progress she has made in walking with her prosthetics in such a short period of time. She has a long way to go but has won the title of "Hero" to so many of us. Her strength an determination to get back to doing the things she has always loved to do is amazing. She loves to fish, swim, ski, ride her motorcycle, pretty much anything that is an active outdoor activity. I know before too long she will be back to doing all these with a big smile on her face. She IS a Tough Alaska Chick! "

Angelica, we will be shipping out your hoodie today and want to let you know that you are definately  a  "Tough Alaska Chick" that we can all look up to! Thank you for pressing on during your tough situation and not giving up! You are truly an inspiration!

Love,

Alaska Chicks
